IC 2012 Review via Social Media!

In February 2012, BBYO’s International Convention (IC) brought together nearly 900 Jewish teens from 13 countries to celebrate and strengthen AZA, BBG and the Jewish people.

Our talented teen leadership and professionals made full use of the various communication channels at their disposal. Our central media hub, the IC Blog, received 38,000+ page views. There were over 3,000 tweets using the #AZABBGIC2012 hashtag and our live broadcast on Jewish Life TV and Jewish Rock Radio had the potential to reach an audience of millions. Our thanks goes out to all of you who made this possible.

In the spirit of social media, we offer this International Convention recap:

On Twitter…@BBGSganit: So this is what 900 teens look like… Whoa. #azabbgic2012

Anti-Israel death threats from one of Twitter’s many trolls

Actually, it is too bizarre to be true but I am being stalked and death-threatened by Shereef Abdallah, an anti-Semitic wannabe Ed Miliband “lookalike”. He previously worked as a volunteer for Labour MP Glenda Jackson and was yesterday exposed by the excellent Martin Bright in the Jewish Chronicle.

Social media outbursts grab public attention

From comedians to rugby players to aspiring top models, there have been plenty of outbursts via social media in 2011, with some catching plenty of public attention. Comedian Raybon Kan created controversy with one fell swoop of the thumbs when he tweeted about train breakdowns on opening night of the Rugby World Cup. “Maybe adidas should run Auckland public transport. Nice German company. They should know how to load thousands onto trains,” he tweeted. “Inappropriate and insulting,” was the instant rebuke from the secretary of the Wellington council of Christians and Jews, Dave Moskovitz.

Why every little tweet helps

While social media open doors to new audiences for our charities, the same doors are available to the likes of Cancer Research and Save the Children, bringing them potential donors they would once have been unable to reach….
